Subaru WRX Engine and Body

The WRX comes with an FA20 twin scroll turbocharger 2.0-litre engine and has a horsepower of 268 and 258 lb.-ft torque. It has a five-speed gearbox and at 2000 rpm, it can reach its peak torque. It has less turbo lag which makes it ideal for driving around the city. Although rev hang is experienced and drivers have to wait for the throttle to drop, the compression ratio of this car is pretty high, same with its boost levels. It comes with a rear lip spoiler and 18” alloy wheels finished in black.

The WRX STI is heavier than the WRX. It gets a 2.5 litre four cylinder boxer engine that is turbocharged with direct fuel injection and has a horsepower of 305 and 209 lb.-ft torque. It has a six-speed transmission and no rev hang is experienced with this car and the throttle drops faster after pressing the clutch. Peak torque is achieved at 4000 rpm and it has better acceleration. A unit with a pedestal or a lip spoiler can be ordered. It’s alloy wheels are 18” finished in dark silver.

Taking it to the track would be fun because it has a rigid chassis, and spring and shocks that are stiffer than the WRX. Not to mention, it’s got wider tires, a larger engine and if you’re into modification, this car would be an excellent choice.

Subaru WRX Safety Features

The ANCAP safety rating gave 5 stars for both cars. These have the impressive SRS airbags (dual front, dual-front side, and curtain) that give protection all around. The Symmetrical All Wheel Drive (SAWD), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Active Torque Vectoring system (ATV) are all included in both units.

The limited slip differentials front and back and a driver controlled centre would keep the WRX STI glued to the road during rainy days and when it hits the track. Though the WRX does not come with that, it has the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) which is a big help when driving on slick roads. It has a decent grip level and a wide steering ratio.

Subaru WRX Fuel Economy and Price

It’s hard to ignore a car’s fuel economy. Leaving less of a carbon footprint. That said, the WRX is lighter by nearly 100 lb and more fuel efficient than the WRX STI.

The WRX is easier on the wallet and would be perfect for city driving. Fitted with ample safety features. But to those looking for off road fun and the latest technology and modifications for their ride, shelling out more for the WRX STI would satisfy their cravings.
